The real estate business is my second career, but the experiences from my first have been very beneficial. After managing in the IT field for 20 years, I have found that my technical background has assisted me and my fellow agents. The tools for the practice of real estate have changed with my help since 1997. Back then, the main means of procuring information was either through the MLS Book or talking to other agents. Now there is emphasis on an internet-based MLS system, (which I was instrumental in securing), use of e-mail, transportable data on a device such as a PDA along with the proven practice of networking with other agents; now, even through social networking facilities.
I believe that my role to a client is not as a "salesperson" but as a consultant; one who provides information on properties, statistics, neighborhoods, schools, trends, etc. Providing information in a professional, knowledgeable manner makes the buyers and sellers more at ease and provides them with the information they need to make prudent decisions.
I have been very active within the Association of REALTORS. I was on the Board of Directors and then President of the Santa Barbara Association of REALTORS in 2004. I have been Chairperson for both the MLS and Technology Committees, served as a director, Secretary/Treasurer and President-elect on the Board. I am also a director on the California Association of REALTORS´ Board of Directors. I have earned the e-PRO designation through the National Association of REALTORS which is indicative of agents that are capable of technological marketing.
Giving back to the community is important to me. In the past, I had offered up my time at Foothill School as the Silent Auction Chair and active in it's PTA. I am also a member on the boards for the Goleta Boys and Girls Club and United Boys & Girls Club of Santa Barbara County. |
